Racism Dressed up as Concern

You wrap your arms around me;
ensure I feel safe and secure.
You hold my hand in the street;
no fear of what we may endure.

Each day you must speak to me;
you need to know I am okay.
Each night you wish me goodnight;
sending your love from far away.

But no matter what you do,
some are ready to air their fears.
They drown me with their concern;
their racism used to cause my tears.

Some don’t believe you love me;
your river runs dry.
More concerned with how much I earn.
Some believe you are a con;
you plan to deceive.
Just racism dressed up as concern.
Your visa inside my eyes.
Professing to care;
they know you will make my heart burn.

You caress me with your warmth;
to feel true love for the first time.
You share your deepest secrets;
trust me enough to need not lie.

Each day you reach out to me;
I know that your love I possess.
Each night you send me a rose;
I sleep under your sweet caress.

But no matter what you do,
some are ready to air their fears.
They drown me with their concern;
their racism used to cause my tears.

Some don’t believe you love me;
your river runs dry.
More concerned with how much I earn.
Some believe you are a con;
you plan to deceive.
Just racism dressed up as concern.
Your visa inside my eyes.
Professing to care;
they know you will make my heart burn.

But no matter what they say,
or how much they try to scare me.
I know we’re love without doubt;
you’ve come from God to set me free.
